This coming Sunday, 24 September, the Great Warsaw Race will be held for the 104th time in history and the 72nd time at Służewiec Racecourse. For the Polish capital the Race is as important as the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe is for Paris. For many horse race lovers it is an event that is remembered longer than the Derby. There are people who very rarely visit the racecourse, but this race acts as a magnet for them every year.

It is only just a handful of days remaining before the 2017 season starts at Służewiec. The great ball will rise for the first time this year on 23rd April, whilst 19th November is the last racing day, traditionally also a Sunday. Compared to the last season, a race will also take place on the Saturday just before “that last Sunday”. 452 races divided into 54 meetings have been planned. 269 races for fullbloods, 163 for Arab horses and 20 for French trotters. The total pool of awards will slightly exceed 8 million PLN.

What the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe is for Paris, the Great Warsaw Race is for the Polish capital and its residents.
This Sunday, 3rd July, the Służewiec Racecourse will host the most prestigious, alongside the Great Warsaw Race, event of the horse racing season in Poland – Derby for the President of the Republic of Poland Cup. On this day, so much sports-related excitement will be accompanied by many other attractions, including a contest for the most beautiful hat for the ladies.
