Summary of the 2013 Season (four-year-old and older thoroughbreds). Irish stallions and Polish Kara

In previous seasons, people talked a lot about the dominance of the Irish bred horses in Służewiec. As far as the four-year-old and older horses are concerned, this trend has largely remained. In general handicap after the 2013 season, the first two places are occupied by horses born in Ireland – five-year-old Camerun (83 kg) and four-year-old Lucky Peter (81.5). Also among sprint distance and miler professionals, the highest notes were awarded to the horses representing this breeding: six-year-old Inheritor (78) and four-year-old Hard Work (77.5). Moreover, Camerun and Lucky Peter earned this year the most money for their owners, respectively: PLN 127,300 for the company BHT Animal Trade, and PLN 134,700 for Janusz Zienkiewicz and Krystyna Głowicka.

Two horses, i.e. Camerun trained by Marek Nowakowski and Lucky Peter prepared by Maciej Janikowski, competed for the title of the best older horse as soon as in the first part of the season. Everyone expected that the leading three-year-old Young Boy (2012) will struggle with them. But the stallion was sick before the race for the Award of the President of the Totalisator and ultimately did not take part in it. It’s a pity, because he showed his growing form with the second place in the race for the Widzów Award (after Camerun). Lucky Peter undertook to fight in this prestigious race with a tie balance in confrontation with Camerun. In Golejewko he outclassed his rival, being the fifth at the finish line, winning in great style. In Widzów he was clearly defeated, losing the second position to the aforementioned Young Boy. In the race for the Award of the President of the Totalisator Camerun quite soundly coped with Lucky Peter, the only one that tried to engage in battle with him on the straight line.
In the second part of the season, the paths of two brave stayers got apart. The owners decided to try Camerun abroad, but a trip to Berlin was a failure (7th in the Listed run over a distance of 1,800 m). In preparation for the Great Warsaw Race, which he was supposed to win for the second time in a row, Camerun beat in the St. Leger the three-year old horses: Patronus, Derby winner, and Pillar, track record holder over the distance of 2,200 m, both carrying six kilograms less Meanwhile, Lucky Peter in very good style, won the Kozienice and Korabia Awards. All people were convinced that older horses would not give any chance to the three-year-olds in the Great Warsaw race because they proved to be better in the previously held comparative races. Camerun started as a safe bet favourite, though soft track was more welcome by Lucky Peter. Unexpectedly, however, they both failed. Camerun buried at the channel, while the second one finished only one position ahead of Camerun, as the fifth. Young Boy, being the last in the Great Warsaw Race, did not regain his form as well. The best of the older horses proved to be unexpectedly Kara, fourth at the finish.

It is the mare bred by the Krasne Stud Farm that made a positive surprise in the 2013 season. Her trainer, and jockey at the same time, Emil Zahariev busily prepared her form to the most important part of the season. In spring she only managed to win the race in the third group, while she took the sixth place in the race for the Award of the President of the Totalisator. A month before the Great Warsaw Race, in great style, she beat mares in the prestigious race for the Award of the Krasne Stud Farm, leaving rivals far behind (e.g. Derby winner Kundalini which performed poorly that day). With these two great performances, she won for her stud farm as much as PLN 58,520 and proved to be the best-ranked (hcp. 78 kg) older thoroughbred of the national breeding.
Third place in terms of sums won (PLN 81,260) was taken by Invisible Dubai prepared by Maciej Jodłowski (running in the colours of the stable owned by Tadeusz Metza at the end). In the first part of the season he won the Opening Handicap and highly subsidized Award of the Mayor of Wrocław (Cat. A), and ended the year with a second place in the Sac-a-Papier, carrying as much as 63 kg.
Among the top horses, there were also Toogris (78.5 kg) and Frenchie Lebec (76.5 kg), which were brought by Konstantin Zgara, but based on pedigrees and past performances in France and the Ukraine, one could expect much more from them. Racing in the biggest races, they failed to win, but earned respectively: PLN 33,800 and 47,787.5, achieving the best results in Partynice.
Older thoroughbreds performed poorly in the competition for short distances. The best, as already mentioned, were Irish Inheritor (78.5 kg/PLN 47,900), and Hard Work (77.5 kg/PLN 44,600). Each of them won one race of category B (Jaroszówka and Przedświta), and they also took places in the top four, mostly after three-year-old horses.
