End of the 2013 season. Suo won the last race by a head before Szarif
In the race for the End-of-Season Award, the thrilling battle for victory was fought by two three-year-old stallions: Suo ridden by jockey Anton Turgaev, which was third in the Great Warsaw Race, and Szarif under senior apprenticeship Błażej Giedyk. The first one proved to be better by a head. Two next places were taken by four-year-old horses, i.e. Young Boy and Tropical Fly.
Outside named group race, race for the Neman Award for two year olds, was won by Predator (in the picture) after the battle with Dolomiti. Polemos heavily led and was the first even 150 meters before the finish line. However, the pair of favourites, strongly finishing on the outside, simply “swallowed” him on the last meters. The stallion ridden by Marek Brezina overtook the mare by his neck at the winning post.
After the last race, the ceremonial presentation of championship awards took place on the second floor of the Grandstand. Jockey Stefan Mazur received an award for the highest number of wins (76) in the season 2013.
An award in the category of Champion trainers was not granted.
For the results of the competition for trotter harnesses, trophies were awarded in three categories: horse – Nitis Josselyn (9 wins); harness driver – Wanda Górniak (8); trainer – Andrzej Najderski (12).
There were also presented awards for the first three places in the Young Riders Championships, held this year for the first time jointly by the mayor of Ursynów Piotr Guziała, Polish Association of Owners and Breeders of English Thoroughbred Horses and Branch of Horse Racetrack Warsaw-Służewiec. The winner of this competition was Błażej Giedyk, second place went to Ireneusz Wójcik and the third to Artur Kupczyński.
The ceremonial presentation of trophies to champions took place in the presence of the president of Totalisator Wojciech Szpil, vice-president Grzegorz Sołtyński and mayor of Ursynów Piotr Guział. The hosts were: president of the Polish Jockey Club Feliks Klimczak and branch director Włodzimierz Bąkowski, who announced that the inauguration of the 2014 racing season would take place on 21 April (the second day of Easter). There are scheduled 56 days of racing in Warsaw. Let us add in conclusion that the results of traditional post-season elections will be announced at the Racing Gala in the Polish Olympic Committee on 16 December.
