4-year-old and older Arabians. Unlucky Kazbek and happy Wares

The four-year-old Russian Kazbek (Benedick-Kazna/Anchar), which was undefeated at the age of three years in Służewiec, was to replace the Russian-bred and owned excellent six-year-old Dostatok (Status-Dupona/Pas) and become the new star of Służewiec. He started the season in Germany, where he took the fourth place in a strong race. After returning to Służewiec, he triumphed in races for the Cometa and Ofir Awards, but he did not have a chance to repay his foreign competitors at home. In the last race before the race for the Europe Award, in competition for the Figaro Award, he was conducted unhappily and injured, which resulted in his first defeat in Warsaw (finished fifth). In addition, he got infected and, therefore, it was ultimately decided that he would finish the season earlier.

Meanwhile, Dostatok, which largely disappointed his faithful fans at the beginning of the season, was third in racing for the Cometa Award and fourth in racing for the Ofir Award. He finally repaid his owner Murat Karaevow the Kazbek’s defeat. He won under Piotr Krowicki, leading from start to finish. However, he did not participate in the race for the Europe Award. He started in September, when in an open comparative race (Pierrot) he narrowly lost to the three-year-old stablemates: mare Ancely and Dhobianim Al Mels, about which we will write more in another article.

Pentagon, Impact and Ussam de Carrere
Following Kazbek’s injury and decision to withdraw Dostatok, the chances that a horse trained in Poland will win racing for the Europe Award, for the fourth time included in the global racing cycle under the name of Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Cup, significantly decreased. Moreover, the owner decided to take to Denmark talented Pentagon, which in July won the race G3 in Sweden over a distance of 1,600 m. Although, only the last year’s winner ultimately came to Warsaw, German Ameretto (Amer-Win Taouy/Drug), his class seemed to be significantly higher than the Arabians trained in Służewiec. From among them, the biggest hopes were associated with Impact (Marwan I-Isy/Dajamo), which in racing for the Ofir Award was defeated only by Kazbek and trained by Kamila Urbańczyk Ussam de Carrere (Newman-Assada El Barka/Mad Oua), faster than Impact in the Figaro Award (was second after Dostatok). Russian Nonet, third in last year’s race for the Europe Award, presented poorly in spring. The last resort was to try to overcome Ameretto in an open race with a sprint finish. It turned out, however, that a stallion is incredibly fast. He ran 500 meters within 31.3 s, soundly beating Impact. In the battle for third place, Nonet unexpectedly beat Ussam de Carrere. In the autumn, despite being caught in racing for the Pierrot Award (only 6th place), Impact confirmed his supremacy also in racing for the Grand Slam Award, beating again Ussam de Carrere and Magoun (Nougatin-Margo/Gusar).

Damati2
Wielki Damati better than Pirat
In the first part of the season, in the races designed exclusively for Polish Arabian breeding, the last year’s Derby winner Wielki Damati (Ontario HF-Wielka Dama/El Amor), trained by Jan Głowacki, won two competitions with the Derby winner Pirat (Akbars-Parafraza/Arbil) in racing for Kabaret and Kurozwęg Awards. Pirat was also defeated by Cekur (Amarant-Cesia/Pers) in racing for the Kabaret Award. They both disappointed in the challenge with foreign rivals in racing for the Figaro Award (eighth and ninth place). Moreover, it was the last start of Wielki Damati due to its injury. Cekur also ended the season earlier, after to weaker performances. Pirat became noticed only in racing for the Comparative Award, taking the second place after Wares.

Wares being the best Polish-bred horse
The best racing Polish-bred Arabian across the entire season turned out to be Wares (Ontario HF ? Wienerva/Santhos), bred by Jan Głowacki and trained by his son Bartosz. Aware of his class, the Głowacki Family did not threw the riding horse straight into the deep end, as they did not want to make him exhausted in fight with strong foreign rivals. Wares won the race of Group II in a good style, and then he suffered a miserable defeat in Bandos Handicap. He was also unsuccessful in racing for the Janów Award, in which he finished fourth. It was, however, the last defeat of Wares this year. A month later, he won the Derby after the battle on the straight line with bred by Ryszard Ptacha Wierzbin (Gorec-Wiatka/Pamir), which was second in Janów, and greatly prepared Etard (Ganges-Etezja/Pilot). Then, Wares won the race for the Michałów Award (this time after the battle with Netka), and then confirmed his leading position for the Comparative Award, resisting attacks of his peers: Wielka Damira (Ontario HF-Great Lady/El Amor), Safar (Ganges-Salsa/Wojsław) and Netka (Ontario HF-Nestika Bint Nessa/Gips) and five-year-old Pirat.
There were also noted the aforementioned Derby winner Wierzbin and the Janów Award winner Master Bars (Akbars-Megrissa/Ganges), but the season was slightly spoiled by injuries for both. Master Bars did not run in the Derby. He eventually took a break until October and did not return to his good form. After a successful performance in the Derby, Wierzbin won the race of Group II, but he also ended starts too early. Safar from Janów was more healthy; he won two outside-group races, was third in the Memorial of Bogdan Ziemiański, El Ghazi and Michałów Award, and fourth in the Comparative Award.
Brave Netka without laurels Definitely the best three-year-old mare was Netka last year, but in the end she finished the season of 2013 without a victory. However, she ran at a good level. In the race for the Janów Award, she was third, which influenced the decision of trainer Janusz Kozłowski to leave her in the Derby record. Netka failed in the run for a blue ribbon – she was only eleventh. Perhaps, this was also reflected on her attitude in another race. Anton Turgaev finished too late on her in the competition for the Sabellina Award and, therefore, she was unexpectedly defeated by Wilga Facie, trained by Janusz Głowacki. Another mare of this trainer, i.e. Wielka Damira, sister of Wielki Damir, turned out to be better than Netka in the Oaks.
These two best mares fought with stallions in the autumn races. Netka finished second in racing for Michałów Award, and Wielka Damira was fourth, while they took, respectively, fifth and third place in racing for the Comparative Award.
